Academic Programmes

Authorised for the IB Diploma Programme in 1980, MIS possesses decades of experience as a mature, highly successful IB World School. Aside from the IB Diploma Programme, MIS was among the first schools to achieve authorisation for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) in 1998. Not surprisingly, MIS is home to many of the examiners, subject leaders and curriculum writers for the IBO.

Our curriculum is built within, but not limited to, the frameworks of the three IBO programmes: Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP).

We intentionally design and deliver curriculum to bring forward essential learnings and experiences for all of our students.

We believe our students’ learning experiences must reflect the world in which they live: we embed rich technologies within all our learning environments. In Grades 7 to 12, all students have access to a laptop computer.

The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) at Munich International School is designed for students between the ages of 4 and 10 years. It encompasses learning not just in the classroom but also through other means of learning within the whole community. The PYP is an international, transdisciplinary programme designed to foster the development of the whole child by encompassing students’ social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to their academic welfare. Students develop an understanding of important concepts, acquire essential skills and knowledge, develop particular attitudes and learn to take socially responsible action. The PYP combines the best research and practice from a range of national systems with a wealth of knowledge and experience from international schools to create a relevant, challenging, engaging and significant educational framework for all children.

The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) is designed for students aged 11 to 16. It provides a framework of learning that encourages students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers. The MYP emphasizes intellectual challenge, encouraging students to make connections between their studies in traditional subjects and the real world. It fosters the development of skills for communication, intercultural understanding and global engagement—essential qualities for young people who are becoming global leaders. It builds upon the knowledge, skills and attitudes developed in the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and prepares students to meet the academic challenges of the IB Diploma Programme (DP). At the end of Grade 10, students sit the eAssessments, i.e., the external MYP exams.

GRADE 11-12

The IB Diploma Programme (DP) at MIS challenges students to reach high with their academic goals. Our students aim for and enter some of the best Universities in the world- Yale, Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, London School of Economics and many others.

We have a diverse offering of subjects which allows students to pursue their own interests whilst meeting their future academic needs and career plans.
